(By- Z A Ansari ) New Delhi: The long-awaited Parvati-2 Hydropower Project has achieved a significant milestone. Reports indicate that three units of the project, each with a capacity of 200 MW, have commenced commercial operations, contributing a total of 600 MW to the grid. The commissioning of the remaining 4th unit (200 MW) is expected to be completed within the next ten days, bringing the project to full capacity of 800 MW.

NHPC’s Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) R.K. Chaudhary and his team have successfully executed this long-awaited project, which had been delayed for years. The successful commissioning of Parvati-2 is expected to significantly enhance India’s power generation capacity.

A former CMD of NHPC also shared an interesting anecdote related to this project. He recalled that during the construction of the tunnel for Parvati-2, a British engineering team abandoned the project midway, fearing that the tunnel would collapse. They refused to proceed with drilling, deeming it too risky. However, taking full responsibility, the NHPC team went ahead with the drilling, and today, the successful commissioning of the project stands as a testament to their perseverance and commitment.

The Parvati-2 Hydroelectric Project is set to play a crucial role in India’s energy sector, strengthening power supply not only in Himachal Pradesh but across the country.
