THDCIL, Highlights Tehri Water Sports Cup as a Catalyst for Sports and Tourism

Rishikesh, December 13, 2024: Mr. R.K. Vishnoi, Chairman and Managing Director of THDC India Limited (THDCIL), expressed his gratitude to Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Sh. Pushkar Singh Dhami, for his unwavering support during the closing ceremony of the Tehri Water Sports Cup 2024. The event, held at the THDCIL-Tehri Dam Reservoir, was hailed as a significant milestone for promoting sports and tourism in the region.

Hon’ble CM Sh. Pushkar Singh Dhami praised the professionalism of THDCIL in organizing the prestigious event for the third consecutive year. He emphasized the transformative role of the Tehri Dam Complex in fostering water sports and tourism alongside its contribution to electricity generation. “The athletes’ talent and enthusiasm are inspiring,” said Sh. Dhami, adding his confidence in seeing participants excel on national and international platforms in the future.

The four-day championship witnessed participation from over 500 athletes, coaches, and team managers from 22 states competing in 126 races across 44 kayaking and canoeing events. CMD Mr. Vishnoi congratulated all winners and commended Team THDCIL for their efforts in organizing the event. He highlighted THDCIL’s commitment to the socio-economic development of Uttarakhand, citing initiatives like the High-Performance Academy at Koteshwar as steps toward nurturing local talent.

Sh. Bhupender Gupta, Director (Technical), outlined THDCIL’s vision of positioning Tehri Lake as a global hub for water sports. He emphasized the broader impact of such events in boosting tourism and local economic development.

Dignitaries including Sh. Shakti Lal Shah, Sh. Kishore Upadhyay, and others attended the event. As THDCIL approaches the commissioning of two landmark projects, the 1,000 MW Tehri Pumped Storage Plant and the 1,320 MW Khurja Super Thermal Power Plant, the company continues to cement its position in India’s energy and development landscape.
