Sushma Rawat reveals ONGC’s ambitious exploration plans at Urja Warta 2024.

New Delhi: In a significant announcement, ONGC Director (Exploration) Sushma Rawat unveiled the company’s strategic vision for comprehensive exploration of India’s sedimentary basins. Speaking at Urja Warta 2024, she emphasized the need to intensify efforts in Category 2 and Category 3 basins, which hold immense potential for hydrocarbon discovery.

Rawat proposed a novel approach, suggesting the de-categorization of basins based on logistical, depth, and drilling challenges. She highlighted the challenges posed by deeper plays in KG deep water, sub-Basalt plays in western onshore and offshore basins, HP-HT plays of KG, and WOB.

The ONGC chief stressed the importance of adopting cutting-edge technology to enhance imaging and drilling capabilities. She underlined the need for deeper wells, testing, and hydraulic fracturing (HF) to unlock the full potential of tight sands.
