New Delhi: 18-Jan-2024: In a showcase of remarkable achievements, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) is spotlighting the Smart Cities Mission (SCM) at the ‘National Smart Cities Mission Pavilion’ during the 9th Smart Cities India Expo held at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi from January 17th to 19th, 2024. The pavilion features models of impactful projects from cities like Indore, Surat, Udaipur, and Prayagraj.
On January 19, 2024, the City Leader’s Conclave will unite urban leaders and private entrepreneurs to deliberate on city initiatives for creating liveable and sustainable urban spaces. The Smart Cities India Awards on the same day will acknowledge projects that enhance the liveability, sustainability, and economic viability of cities.
As of January 15, 2024, the 100 Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) established under the Smart Cities Mission have completed over 6,650 projects worth more than ₹1.32 lakh crores. Notable achievements include the deployment of Integrated Command and Control Centres (ICCC), advancements in citizen safety, urban mobility projects, and the integration of technology in managing urban services.
Moreover, the Smart Cities have invested in social infrastructure, vibrant public spaces, economic infrastructure, and PPP projects, fostering collaborations with the private sector. The mission has introduced various assessment frameworks, and in response to emerging needs, initiatives like ‘Cycles4Change’ and ‘Streets4People’ were launched during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The National Urban Digital Mission (NUDM) launched in February 2021 aims to create an urban digital ecosystem, and ‘The Urban Learning Internship Program (TULIP)’ seeks to provide hands-on learning experiences for recent graduates in ULBs and Smart Cities, with over 40,000 internships posted and 6,000 completed. These initiatives collectively contribute to the vision of creating smart, sustainable, and citizen-centric cities in India.
