Shri Suprakash Adhikari Steps into Role as NHPC’s Director (Technical)

New Delhi: NHPC Limited, India’s leading hydropower company and a Navratna Enterprise, welcomed Shri Suprakash Adhikari as its new Director (Technical) today. Previously serving as Executive Director (O&M), Shri Adhikari brings 34 years of hydropower expertise, starting his career with NHPC in 1990 as a Probationary Executive (Electrical).
A graduate in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur, he has been instrumental in driving operational excellence. Record annual generation and the highest-ever Plant Availability Factor (PAF) were achieved under his leadership, alongside a notable reduction in forced outages. His technical oversight in the Design (E&M) Division advanced engineering for hydro and pumped storage projects, while his efforts led to the successful commissioning of the 800 MW Parbati-II Hydro Electric Project.
Key power stations like Chamera-I (540 MW), Sewa-II (120 MW), and Rangit (60 MW) saw enhanced efficiency under his guidance. A major highlight was the early restoration of Sewa-II’s damaged Head Race Tunnel, showcasing his engineering prowess. With international exposure from visits to France, Norway, and Ukraine, Shri Adhikari is poised to steer NHPC toward greater technical innovation in the hydropower sector.
