Round-the-clock renewable energy is not possible without hydropower- R K Singh

New Delhi: The Union Minister for Power and New & Renewable Energy, Shri R.K Singh, visited the Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project in Arunachal Pradesh/Assam on November 27, 2023. During his visit, the Minister inspected the construction sites of the project, including the dam, intake structures, and diversion tunnels in Gerukamukh, Assam. He also took a review meeting and instructed officials and contractors to work with maximum zeal to complete the project as per schedule.

Speaking to the media, The minister emphasized the importance of hydel projects in the country’s energy transition and reducing emissions. He stated that round-the-clock renewable energy is not possible without hydropower. The Minister also highlighted that 13 hydel projects are coming up in Arunachal Pradesh, which will bring in an investment of Rs. 1.4 lakh crore and provide 13,000 MW clean power to the nation. These projects will substantially increase the per capita income of the state and make it four times higher.
