Prime Minister Inaugurates Landmark Pipeline Projects for Oil India’s Growth
Hon'ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi Unveils Two Pivotal Pipeline Initiatives in Jorhat, Assam
Assam: In a momentous ceremony at Jorhat, Assam, Oil India, a prestigious CPSE, marked a historic milestone as Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated two flagship pipeline projects today. The projects aim to enhance hydrocarbon transportation while contributing to the development of the region.
The first project involved upgrading the pumping capacity of the 756 km Barauni-Bongaigaon-Guwahati sector of the Naharkatiya-Barauni Crude Oil Pipeline to 3 MMTPA. This upgrade is set to meet the demand for imported crude oil at Bongaigaon and Guwahati refineries. Simultaneously, a 38 km pipeline from Duliajan to Digboi was replaced, featuring a new cathodic protection system and optical fibre communication-based network. This technological advancement will facilitate capacity enhancement at Digboi refinery from 0.65 MMTPA to 1 MMTPA.
Both projects, completed within a total budgeted project cost of Rs. 623 Crore, emphasize the commitment to safe, reliable, and eco-friendly hydrocarbon transportation. Following the Prime Minister’s call for Atmanirbhar Bharat, the majority of machinery and equipment used were indigenously manufactured, contributing to the growth of the Indian manufacturing industry. Moreover, these initiatives generated employment, providing nearly 50,000 man-days of work for site construction across Assam, West Bengal, and Bihar.
The ceremony witnessed the presence of esteemed dignitaries, including the Chief Minister of Assam, Union Minister of Port, Shipping, Waterways and Ayush, Minister of State for Petroleum & Natural Gas and Labour & Employment, and the Member of Parliament, Guwahati. Senior officials from MoPNG, Chairman & Managing Director of OIL, and representatives from district administration, OIL, and other PSUs graced the event.
Addressing the audience, Prime Minister Modi emphasized that these projects hold the potential to significantly enhance the socio-economic landscape of the state, fostering overall development and prosperity. The initiatives reflect a concerted effort towards achieving the vision of a self-reliant India.
