Parvati-II, 800 MW Hydroelectric Project Ready for Power Generation

New Delhi: NHPC’s 800 MW Parvati-2 hydroelectric project is now fully set for commissioning. the project has received almost all necessary approvals, and power generation is expected to begin by March 2025.
Located on the Parvati River in the Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh, the project features an 83.7-meter-high concrete gravity dam, a 31.52-kilometer-long headrace tunnel, and four Pelton turbines of 200 MW each, contributing to a total capacity of 800 MW.

Under the leadership of NHPC Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Shri Raj Kumar Chaudhary, the project has made significant progress. Since assuming office in August 2024, Shri Chaudhary has accelerated its development.
Power Generation Based on Water Levels
The hydroelectric project will generate electricity based on water levels. As water storage increases, so will the production capacity. Being situated in Himachal Pradesh, the project is expected to play a crucial role in meeting the country’s energy demands.
Economic and Environmental Impact
With its commissioning, the project will enhance energy supply stability and promote green energy production. It marks a major step toward achieving India’s renewable energy goals.(By-Z A Ansari)
