Oil India Strikes Big: 9 Blocks Won Under OALP IX, Boosting Exploration by 85%!

New Delhi: Oil India Limited (OIL), the Maharatna CPSE under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG), has made waves in the energy sector by clinching 9 blocks in the OALP Round IX bidding. This game-changing move has added a massive 51,000 square kilometers to OIL’s exploration portfolio, skyrocketing its total acreage from 60,000 sq.km to an impressive 110,000 sq.km—a staggering 85% growth! Out of these, six blocks will be spearheaded by OIL as the sole operator, while three will see the company team up with consortium partners.

What’s even more remarkable? OIL bid for 9 blocks and won every single one, achieving a perfect 100% strike rate—a testament to its razor-sharp strategy, technical expertise, and competitive edge. A significant chunk of the new acreage, over 47,000 sq.km, lies in the challenging deep and ultra-deep offshore waters, positioning OIL to conquer high-potential frontiers that could redefine India’s energy landscape.

This milestone also marks OIL’s bold entry into uncharted territories, with operations kicking off in the Cambay Basin and the state of Meghalaya, opening doors to untapped geological prospects. Fueled by the Government of India’s forward-thinking policies—like the Hydrocarbon Exploration and Licensing Policy (HELP), Ease of Doing Business reforms, and access to previously restricted ‘No-Go’ zones—OIL’s expansion signals a new era of innovation and ambition.
As India races toward energy security and self-reliance, OIL is not just expanding its footprint—it’s leading the charge with precision and purpose, setting the stage for a future where the nation’s energy demands are met with confidence and capability.
