NHPC has made a generous contribution of Rs. 3 crore to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund in Sikkim.

Faridabad: NHPC has contributed Rs 3 crore (Rupees Three Crore) to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund of Sikkim to support the relief efforts of the Government of Sikkim for the victims of the unexpected natural calamity caused by the lake outburst in Lhonak on the night of October 3rd, 2023.

Sh. L.K. Tripathi, Executive Director (Region-Siliguri), Sh. C.R. Das, HoP Teesta-V Power Station, and Sh. Lhendhup Lepcha, HoP Teesta-IV HE Project, along with senior officials of Teesta-VI HE Project, presented the payment intimation advice to Shri Prem Singh Tamang, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim, in Gangtok, Sikkim on October 10th, 2023.

The flash flood was triggered due to the outburst of Lhonak Lake in North Sikkim on the night of October 3rd and 4th, 2023, which caused heavy inflow in the Teesta River.

This resulted in severe damage to bridges, parts of highway NH-10, small towns, and infrastructure in the Teesta River Valley of Sikkim. The NHPC family stands with the people of Sikkim in this moment of tragedy, and NHPC management has decided to provide full support to the relief efforts of the State Government in the affected areas through this financial aid.

Since the outbreak of this calamity, NHPC has been proactive and has made continuous efforts to provide relief measures for the victims. NHPC has already organized langars, distributed rations, and other supplies to the flash flood victims in coordination with the state administration. The Langar arrangements made by NHPC at different locations shall continue until the situation returns to normal.
