New Delhi: NewsIP’s prediction about the appointment of IOCL Chairman seems to be coming true. As our readers may recall when PESB was interviewing candidates for the IOCL Chairman post, NewsIP had reported from sources that the interview would be inconclusive and that is exactly what happened. The interview ended and after a long deadlock, a PESB order was issued stating that the IOCL Chairman would be selected through a search committee.
This sparked a debate about who would be the next IOCL Chairman after the current one’s tenure ends. Some speculated that an outsider would get the opportunity while others suggested that the current chairman would get an extension.
A NewsIP source even revealed that a person from HPCL was being considered for the IOCL Chairman post, who had close ties with Nagpur and had risen to the CMD position after a stint in HR. However, the current chairman was given an extension.
In today’s times, getting news or information is like biting a bullet, as the government system only discloses what it is ordered to, and the situation of IOCL is evident to everyone.
But in NewsIP’s twenty years of reporting career, there are some sources who share information with us. We thank those sources and salute them for keeping their trust in us in this era of sting operations.
The latest news is that the government has formed a three-member search committee for the IOCL Chairman post. This committee will comprise the PESB Chairman, Petroleum Secretary and former HPCL CMD, Surana ji.
Experts opine that there are two possible scenarios for the selection of the IOCL Chairman by this committee. Scenario one – The current chairman’s name will be approved without any changes.
Scenario two – The IOCL Chairman post will be given to someone from outside IOCL.
There are also rumours that a TMC MP’s recent public statement on the IOCL Chairman did not send a good signal, although an ED-level officer of IOCL had to bear the brunt of that action, whose journey was from Lucknow.
Now only time will tell which way the wind will blow for selecting IOCL Chairman.
