New Delhi: “Parivartan-Prison to Pride and Nayi Disha – Redefining the Future are, in my view, holistic initiatives taken by IndianOil towards integrating inmates positively into a creative mindset, shared Mr. A S Sahney, Chairman of IndianOil, in a conversation with NewsIP. Applauding the progress made, he expressed pride in the initiatives’ ability to provide second chances and wished the teams continued success.
Under these programmes, which aim to rehabilitate and empower prison inmates and children in correctional homes, IndianOil has launched Phase IX of *Parivartan – Prison to Pride* and Phase VI of *Nayi Disha – Redefining the Future*. Over 1,650 individuals in 28 prisons and 14 correctional homes are expected to benefit from this phase, which reflects IndianOil’s enduring commitment to creating inclusive opportunities for underserved communities.
A Broadening Impact Across the Nation
The reach of these initiatives has been steadily expanding, with over 7,300 lives positively influenced across 150 locations in 29 states and Union Territories over the past three years. The programmes focus on introducing inmates to structured activities such as sports, which help foster discipline, teamwork, and a sense of purpose. Coaching facilities, sports kits, and necessary equipment are provided to participants as part of the initiative.
Innovative Welfare Projects
Beyond sports-based rehabilitation, IndianOil has also pioneered projects like *Umeed – A Hope*. Through partnerships with state prison departments, fuel stations managed by inmates and ex-inmates have been established, creating sustainable livelihoods. The introduction of Tihar Jail’s retail outlet at an IndianOil fuel station in New Delhi stands as a notable example of how marginalised individuals can be reintegrated into mainstream society.
Global Recognition of Impact
These initiatives have not only created significant social impact but have also garnered international acclaim. Inmates from correctional homes in Bhopal and Eluru earned Gold and Bronze medals, respectively, at the 4th Intercontinental Online Chess Championship. Awards such as the *Sportstar Aces Chairperson Award 2023* and the *Asia-Pacific Stevie Award for Thought Leadership* further validate the effectiveness of these programmes. IndianOil’s efforts were also recognised by FIDE, which honoured the organisation with the *Chess for Freedom Award*.
A Vision for Inclusive Development
Launched on significant national milestones, such as India’s 75th Independence Day in 2021, these programmes have now reached 192 locations, empowering nearly 9,000 individuals. The initiatives underscore IndianOil’s commitment to “Nation First,” a philosophy that integrates social responsibility with business leadership.
IndianOil continues to lead by example, demonstrating how corporate initiatives can foster meaningful rehabilitation and empower marginalised communities to build better futures.
