I was instrumental in conceiving this project of construction of the New Parliament House-Prabhakar Singh(Former-DG-CPWD)

On the occasion of the New Parliament inauguration By Mr. Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Damodar Das Modi today, Mr. Prabhakar Singh Former-Director General (DG) of CPWD said to newsip, as DG, CPWD he was instrumental in conceiving this project of construction of the New Parliament House, its site selection, designing, estimation, coordination, and obtaining sanction from the concerned authorities, calling and award of tenders of the consultants, and starting the work.

This was the brief for this building on which he formulated himself and worked on it – most modern, user-friendly, iconic, lasting, majestic, and imposing with its grandeur and Indian to its core. The work was to be completed within a very short time running against the time with round the clock working on all fronts with challenges of deployment and movement of a huge labour force in a very restricted and highly security sensitive central location in Delhi, movement of huge quantities of different kind of materials and their storage, traffic issues in this VIP location, etc, almost impractical extremely short time available challenged him to brainstorm for the selection of right technology, right materials, their sourcing, supply time, etc. The selection of suitable engineers and architects from top to bottom to be deployed on this unique project was a herculean task which he did himself. He is happy to see that all his efforts have resulted in a grand success at the end.
