First Compressed Bio-Gas Plant inaugurated in Muzzafarnagar to commence supply to Indraprastha Gas Limited under SATAT

The first CBG plant to commence supply of CBG to Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) by generating Biogas by processing pressmud as a feedstock was inaugurated today in Muzzafarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh. Mr. Pawan, Kumar, Director (Commercial), IGL inaugurated the plant in presence of officials of IGL, BPCL and PS Green Gas.

Inaugurating the plant, Mr Pawan Kumar, congratulated the entrepreneurs, technical consultant & local team of IGL for the success in setting up the plant. He commended their efforts and stated that it will help in developing the ecosystem required for producing waste to energy. He added that apart from being an environment friendly fuel, CBG will also help in increasing income of local farmers and society at large. He also reaffirmed IGL’s commitment for a greener tomorrow in all its areas of operation.

Mr. Kumar subsequently flagged off the vehicle carrying the gas from the plant to the fuel station & then inaugurated the fuel supply to first customer from BPCL retail outlet. Members from IGL, BPCL & PS Green Gas were present on this occasion.

Earlier, addressing the gathering through video link, Mr. A. K. Jana, Managing Director, IGL applauded the initiative and stated that this is a right step towards increasing the domestic gas production of natural gas. He further added that off take of Compressed Bio Gas produced from such plants under GoI’s SATAT scheme will be a part of domestic gas under synchronization scheme and will reduce dependence on imports of Liquified Natural Gas.

This Compressed Bio Gas (CBG) plant, M/s P.S. Green Gas, shall start production and supply of approx. 2500 KGPD of CBG, which shall be ramped up gradually to achieve 5000 KGPD of CBG, and shall be supplied to BPCL Retail Outlet-M/s Jagdamba, located on NH 58. For offtake of CBG from this plant of M/s P.S.Greengas, IGL has installed compression and LCV filling facility at CBG plant site itself.

Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas had launched the SATAT Scheme-Sustainable Alternate Towards Affordable Transportation in the year 2018. In a significant push that has the potential to boost availability of more affordable transport fuels, better use of agricultural residue, cattle dung and municipal solid waste as well as to provide an additional revenue source to farmers, Oil & Gas Marketing Companies started inviting Expression of Interest (EoI) from potential entrepreneurs to set up Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) production plants and make available CBG in the market for use in automotive sector.

Use of Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) will also help bring down dependency on crude oil imports and in realising the Prime Minister’s vision of enhancing farmers’ income, rural employment and entrepreneurship.

SATAT envisages setting up of 5000 plants by the year 2024 with an estimated production of 15 MMTPA of CBG. IGL has been instrumental in implementation of SATAT scheme and has contributed by providing practical, convenient and viable modes of procurement to the LOI holders/CBG producers such as injection in pipeline, helping entrepreneurs with no experience of handling LCV supply chain by executing compression and transportation activities by IGL.
