Application of Geosynthetics in Dam Engineering -THDCIL

Rishikesh : Sh. R. K. Vishnoi, Chairman and Managing Director, THDC India Limited also President, INCOLD congratulated all the participants, speakers and guests of honour on the inauguration of 02- day workshop titled “Application of Geosynthetics in Dam Engineering,” at Takshshilla Sustainable Livelihood and Community Development Centre of THDCIL, Rishikesh. He added that the 2-day workshop on 26th and 27th June being organized by The Committee for International Commission on Large Dams (INCOLD)  in collaboration with the Indian Chapter of the International Geosynthetics Society (IGS) and Central Board of Irrigation and Power (CBIP). Sh. R. K. Vishnoi added, this  is a curtain raiser among series of events leading to the Grand culmination of 92nd ICOLD annual ICOLD meeting and international symposium and exhibition on the theme of “Dams for people, Water, Environment, and development” being organized from 18th to 24th Oct, 2024 at ITPO Pragati Maidan New Delhi
Sh. Vishnoi, while expressing appreciation and support to the participants participating in this workshop, highlighted that workshops like these provide unique opportunities for networking, collaboration, and the exchange of ideas among participants. He said that the primary objective of this workshop is to foster an environment of open dialogue and knowledge-sharing, encouraging active engagement from every attendee, and urged the participants to pose questions, raise queries, and share their valuable experiences to collectively contribute to the advancement of Geosynthetics in Dam Engineering.
Sh. A. K. Dinkar Secretary General, INCOLD & Secretary, CBIP delivered the welcome address on the occasion and conveyed that this workshop serves as a platform for experts, professionals, and stakeholders from the field of Dam Engineering to come together, learn from each other’s expertise, and explore the various applications of geosynthetics in the construction and maintenance of dams.
Sh. Shallinder Singh, Director (Personnel), THDC India Limited, Sh. Manish Shrikhande, HOD, Earthquake Eng. IIT, Roorkee, and Sh. Vivek Kapadia, Secretary to Govt. of Gujarat & Director, SSNL delivered the Guest of Honor address at the event. Sh. Shallinder Singh, Director (Personnel), THDCIL during his address conveyed that being an organization committed to sustainable development and innovation, THDCIL recognizes the potential of geosynthetics in enhancing dam construction and maintenance practices, and workshops like these serve as a catalyst for innovation, and progress in this filed.  He further added that this workshop will be a unique opportunity for networking, collaboration, and exchange of ideas amongst the participants.
Sh. Manish Shrikhande, HOD, Earthquake Eng. IIT, Roorkee during his interaction with the participants and presenters said that this workshop will contribute to enhance the durability, stability, and overall performance of dams by harnessing the potential of geosynthetics.
Sh. Vivek Kapadia, Secretary to Govt. of Gujarat & Director, SSNL said that the workshop will shed light on the latest advancements, case studies, and best practices in geosynthetics implementation within the context of dam engineering. He added that the event is going to leave the participants equipped with new insights, ideas, and collaborative opportunities.
Sh. Vishnoi informed that more than 60 faculties and participants from 20 different organization of Nation and International repute are participating in this 02-day workshop. This workshop will contribute to the development and widespread adoption of geosynthetics in dam engineering practices across the nation featuring a series of insightful presentations, panel discussions, and interactive sessions led by industry experts and researchers. It will cover a wide range of geosynthetics topics, including their role in erosion control, slope stabilization, seepage control, and reinforcement of dam structures.
Sh. K. K. Singh, Treasurer, INCOLD & Director (WR), CBIP during his vote of thanks extended his heartful gratitude to all the esteemed speakers and event organizers. He added that this 02-day workshop will play a pivotal role in driving the progress of Geosynthetics within the field of Dam Engineering.
