THDC India Limited (THDCIL) and Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam Ltd. (GMVN) have announced a joint initiative to set up Electric Vehicle Charging Stations at 14 guest houses along the Char Dham Yatra route in Uttarakhand.
This initiative aims to promote the use of electric vehicles and reduce pollution in the region. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed on October 18, 2023, outlines the commitment of both organizations to establish the charging stations before the commencement of the Char Dham Yatra next year.
The MoU was signed by Sh. Praveen Saxena, General Manager (Business Development) on behalf of THDCIL and Sh. Rakesh Saklani, AGM (Tourism) on behalf of GMVN, in the presence of Sh. Vinod Giri Goswami, IAS, the Managing Director of GMVN, and other senior officers of both organizations. This collaborative effort by THDCIL and GMVN demonstrates a significant stride towards sustainable and eco-friendly transportation options in Uttarakhand.
It is also in line with the Indian government’s vision to promote electric mobility as a means to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution. The 14 guest houses where the charging stations will be installed are located along the Char Dham Yatra route, which covers four Hindu pilgrimage sites in Uttarakhand – Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. The installation of charging stations at these locations is expected to support the growing demand for electric vehicles in the region and encourage more people to switch to sustainable modes of transportation.
This joint initiative by THDCIL and GMVN is a testament to their commitment to promoting sustainable development in Uttarakhand. By providing eco-friendly transportation options for visitors to the Char Dham Yatra, this initiative contributes to the overall goal of reducing the carbon footprint of the region and preserving its natural beauty for future generations.
