In a significant stride towards India’s renewable energy goals, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for NHPC Limited’s 300 MW Karnisar-Bhatiyan Solar Power Plant in Bikaner, Rajasthan. The ceremony, conducted through video conferencing on 16th February 2024, marked a monumental step in achieving the nation’s ambitious Renewable Energy capacity addition target.
Under the Government of India’s CPSU Scheme, Phase-II, Tranche-III, the solar project boasts cutting-edge technology, including high-efficiency bifacial modules manufactured in India, aligning with the Atma Nirbhar Bharat initiative. The total investment in the project exceeds ₹1732 Crore, emphasizing the commitment to sustainable energy.

The power generated by the plant, with an annual output of approximately 750 million units, will significantly contribute to offsetting carbon dioxide emissions by about 18,000 million Metric tons over its lifetime. A Power Usage Agreement has been established with Punjab State Power Corporation Limited at a competitive tariff of ₹2.45/unit for 25 years.
Scheduled for commissioning by September 2024, the project holds the potential to create employment opportunities for 600 individuals during the project phase and 100 personnel during the Operations & Maintenance phase. The ceremony was attended by key dignitaries, including Shri Bhajan Lal Sharma, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Rajasthan, and Shri R.K. Singh, Hon’ble Union Cabinet Minister of Power and New & Renewable Energy. NHPC Limited, India’s leading hydropower company, continues to contribute significantly to the nation’s renewable energy landscape.
