Goa, 9th February 2024, In a groundbreaking initiative, the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) hosted the inaugural International Conference of Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulators as part of India Energy Week 2024 in Goa from 5th to 8th February.
The conference witnessed the participation of major South and Southeast Asian National Energy Regulatory Authorities, including representatives from Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and Thailand, alongside global industry leaders.
Under the theme “Navigating Pathways for Natural Gas Development,” the conference addressed crucial topics like geopolitical uncertainties, rapid infrastructure development, public-private partnerships, and institutional growth during five plenary sessions. S&P Global Commodity Insights served as the knowledge partner, contributing valuable insights to the discussions.
Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Housing and Urban Affairs, Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, highlighted India’s commitment to increase the share of natural gas in its energy mix from 6% to 15%. He praised PNGRB’s initiative and proposed making the international regulatory conclave a permanent feature of IEW.
Dr. Anil Kumar Jain, Chairperson of PNGRB, stressed the significance of regional collaboration among South and Southeast Asian countries to formulate effective regulatory frameworks for natural gas development.
The conference featured an exclusive roundtable of international regulators, fostering cross-border collaboration and sharing best practices.
Industry leaders underscored the role of natural gas as a transition fuel to achieve net-zero emissions and emphasized the need for a united front from the global south to secure energy supply.
The discussions highlighted India’s natural gas regulatory and infrastructure development, particularly in the city gas distribution sector, aiming to provide reliable and affordable clean energy.
The conference served as a nexus of expertise, providing a platform for stakeholders to network, exchange knowledge, and forge partnerships to shape the future of natural gas development. PNGRB’s commitment to organizing such events aligns with Prime Minister’s vision and sets the stage for continued regional cooperation and progress in the energy sector.
