Mumbai, 8th December 2023:In a collaborative effort to bolster electric vehicle ev-charging-strategic-partnership accessibility, an Memorandum of Understanding (“MOU”) has been formalized between Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Limited (TPEM). Announced on the 8th of December 2023, the MOU will leverage BPCL’s expansive fuel station network and TPEM’s insights from Tata EVs to establish 7,000 chargers at locations frequented by Tata EV owners. Notably, insights on charger usage will be actively collected by BPCL to enhance the overall customer experience.
The strategic partnership between TPEM and BPCL aims to elevate the overall experience for Tata EV owners while exploring the potential introduction of a user-friendly payment system through a co-branded RFID card. The objective is to simplify transactions for Tata EV users and encourage a broader adoption of electric vehicles across the country. BPCL, with its nationwide network of over 21,000 fuel stations, is committed to a sustainable future, intending to install electric vehicle charging stations at approximately 7,000 energy stations in the coming year. To address range concerns of electric vehicle owners, BPCL has initiated over 90 Electric Vehicle Fast Charging Highway Corridors across the nation, ensuring fast-charging stations approximately every 100 kilometers on both sides of major highways, spanning over 30,000 kilometers.
The MOU was formally signed by Shri Rahul Tandon, Chief General Manager (Marketing), Retail BPCL, and Shri Balaje Rajan, Chief Strategy Officer, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Limited, and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. According to Santosh Kumar, Executive Director In-charge Retail at BPCL, the collaboration signifies a significant step towards aligning with the nation’s vision of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. The comprehensive decarbonization strategy includes converting 7,000 conventional retail outlets into energy stations, demonstrating BPCL’s commitment to sustainable initiatives. TPEM, holding a market share exceeding 71% in the e-mobility space, with over 115,000 Tata EVs on the road, continues to lead India’s electric vehicle landscape, according to Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Limited and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd.
