GAIL’s Integrated Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga Pipeline Has Been Nearly Completed with 96.6% Under Commercial Operation

New Delhi, 09 April 2025 – It has been announced that over 97.6% of the integrated Jagdishpur–Haldia–Bokaro–Dhamra Pipeline, popularly known as “Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga”, has been laid by GAIL (India) Limited. Nearly 96.6% of the completed pipeline has been put under commercial operation, and it is reported that 12.26 Million Standard Cubic Meter Per Day (MMSCMD) of natural gas is currently being transported.

The project, which has an authorized pipeline length of 3,306 km, is said to traverse the states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, and Assam, thereby serving the eastern and north-eastern regions of the country. It is noted that the pipeline has been supplying natural gas to various industrial consumers, including four fertilizer plants, two refineries (Barauni and Paradip), and 32 City Gas Distribution networks serving cities such as Varanasi, Patna, Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and Kolkata.

Additionally, it is being reported that work on the Durgapur–Haldia and Dhamra–Haldia sections of the pipeline has been extended from March 2025 to December 2025 due to limited availability of Right of Use (RoU). Upon completion of these sections, natural gas will be delivered to the Haldia refinery, as well as to CGD Howrah, Hooghly, Purba Medinipur, Paschim Medinipur, and other industrial consumers along the route.

This milestone in energy infrastructure is expected to further enhance the distribution network and contribute significantly to the nation’s energy security.
