THDCIL and MREL Forge Strategic Partnership to Accelerate Renewable Energy Development in Maharashtra

Rishikesh, 26.09.2024:* THDC India Limited (THDCIL) and MAHAGENCO Renewable Energy Limited (MREL), Maharashtra, have entered into a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly advance the development of cutting-edge renewable energy projects in the state. This collaboration is strategically designed to promote clean and affordable energy, in line with India’s NetZero goals.

The agreement was formalized in Mumbai, Maharashtra, in the esteemed presence of Shri Devendra Fadnavis, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, who holds multiple key portfolios including Energy and Water Resources. Shri Fadnavis expressed his commendations to the leadership teams of both companies, assuring full government support for the swift execution of the projects outlined in the MoU.

Shri R. K. Vishnoi, Chairman and Managing Director of THDCIL, highlighted the significance of this partnership, stating that it represents a substantial leap forward in Maharashtra’s energy landscape. He reiterated THDCIL’s unwavering commitment to sustainable development, leveraging the company’s expertise in innovative energy solutions to help drive the nation’s renewable energy capacity forward.

The MoU outlines several ambitious projects, including Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia production (50 kTPA), a Battery Energy Storage System (500 MWh), and significant capacities in solar (500 MW), hybrid solar (250 MW), floating solar (250 MW), wind and offshore wind (500 MW), and pumped storage projects (2,200 MW). These ventures are poised to strengthen the state’s energy infrastructure while contributing significantly to India’s clean energy transition.

Shri Bhupender Gupta, Director (Technical) of THDCIL, who co-signed the agreement with Dr. P. Anbalagan, Chairman of MREL, emphasized the shared vision of both organizations. He noted that this partnership marks a critical step towards realizing India’s renewable energy goals, while also underscoring the companies’ commitment to sustainable growth and technological innovation.
