On October 01, 2023, Sh. Pankaj Agarwal, Secretary (Power) at MOP (GOI) visited the 2400 MW Tehri Hydro Complex in Tehri, Uttarakhand for a detailed inspection. Sh. R.K. Vishnoi, Chairman and Managing Director of THDC India Limited, welcomed Sh. Pankaj Agarwal and expressed gratitude for his first-ever visit to THDCIL.
Sh. J. Behera, Director (Finance), Sh. Shallinder Singh, Director (Personnel), and Sh. Bhupender Gupta, Director (Technical), also greeted him on his arrival at the Tehri Complex. During his visit to the Tehri Project, Sh. Pankaj Agarwal administered the Swacchata Pakhwada pledge and participated in a cleanliness drive at the shopping complex in Bhagirathipuram, Tehri, with THDC Management, officers, and local residents. He also conducted a detailed inspection of all the major components of the project, including the Upstream Surge shafts, Butterfly Valve chamber, Penstock assembly chamber, Power House and TRT outfall.
Later, he held a review meeting with the Management and Senior Officers of the Tehri Hydro Project. The key highlight of his visit was to have a detailed overview of the progress of 1000 MW Tehri HEP’s Operation and Maintenance activities and the ongoing activities of 1000 MW (4×250) Tehri Pumped Storage Plant. Sh. Pankaj Agarwal appreciated the highest standards of O&M activities being carried out by THDC Officials and stated that THDC is not only providing affordable Clean and Green Energy to the Northern Grid but also playing a significant role in Flood Control as well as providing irrigation-related benefits that lead to overall socio-economic upliftment of the entire region. Sh. Bhupender Gupta, Director (Technical), and Sh. L. P. Joshi, ED (Tehri Complex) provided valuable insights into the ongoing works of the 4×250 MW Tehri PSP, which is a significant part of India’s Hydroelectric Energy Generation infrastructure. Sh. R. K. Vishnoi emphasized that the Tehri PSP is the largest Pumped Storage Plant among the CPSUs in the country.
He further informed that the first unit of THDC’s flagship Tehri PSP is scheduled to be commissioned in February 2024, followed by other units in phases.
