NHPC Subansiri LHEP will Generate 2 Unit of power will be Commissioned on March-24

NHPC team reviewed  Subansiri Lower HEP, review construction progress. -The Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project (SLHP) is a 2,000 MW hydroelectric power project being constructed by NHPC Limited at Gerukamukh of Dhemaji district in Assam -The project has been under construction since 2005 and was due to be completed in 2010. However, the project was delayed due to stiff opposition over its potential environmental impact -The construction work of the project on the Subansiri river was stalled from December 2011 to October 2019 due to protests by locals and other groups, fearing safety and downstream impact

Arunachal Pradesh: A team of senior officials from the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) visited the 2000 MW Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project (HEP) on Sunday and inspected the progress in construction activities.

The team was led by Sh Mohammad Afzal, Joint Secretary (Hydro), Ministry of Power (MOP), and included Sh Biswajit Basu, Director (Projects) and Sh R.K. Chaudhary, Director (Technical), NHPC.
The Subansiri Lower HEP is a run-of-the-river project located on the Subansiri River, a tributary of the Brahmaputra, in the states of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

The project is expected to generate 7,421.59 million units of electricity annually and provide peaking power to the northeastern region. The project has faced several delays and protests due to environmental and social concerns.
The NHPC officials reviewed the status of various components of the project, such as the dam, spillway, powerhouse, switchyard, transmission lines, and resettlement and rehabilitation works.Nhpc_subhanshri They also interacted with the project authorities and contractors and discussed the issues and challenges faced by them. They expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work and urged the project team to adhere to the revised completion schedule and 2 units commissioning by March 2024.
The NHPC officials also appreciated the efforts of the project team in overcoming the difficulties posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and ensuring the safety and well-being of the workers.

They assured them of all possible support and guidance from the NHPC headquarters and the MOP. They also thanked the state governments of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh for their cooperation and assistance in the execution of the project.
